McKinney police have arrested the woman believed to have shot and killed a 7-year-old boy in Greenville on Thursday evening.
Greenville police issued a capital murder warrant for 26-year-old Brooke Ashley Craig, who police believe fatally shot a 7-year-old boy around 5 p.m. on Thursday. McKinney Police Department received notice of the warrant at 2:45 a.m this morning and later found the suspect’s vehicle.
Officials with McKinney Police Department located the vehicle leaving Walgreens at Hardin and Eldorado streets (about 36 miles from Greenville) and attempted to stop the vehicle. According to reports, Craig fled, driving west into Frisco through several residential areas until eventually turning down a one-way street. She then attempted to back up and struck a patrol unit. After initiating a felony stop, officers took Craig and the passenger of the vehicle, Cameron Rafael Castillo, into custody without incident.
Craig was arrested on the following charges: capital murder; evading arrest or detention with vehicle; failure to maintain financial responsibility; failure to wear a seatbelt; possession of drug paraphernalia; and speeding over the limit.
Castillo was arrested for violation of parole. Both were taken to Collin County Jail. Craig has been set on a no bond.
Greenville Police Information Officer Kathy Lucas said the shooting is believed to have happened in the 4200 block of Pickett Street.
Officers responded to the area and found no disturbance, Lucas said. While officers were searching the area, however, a 7-year-old child was brought into the emergency room at Hunt Regional Medical Center for a gunshot wound. The child died soon after.
