Female jailer attacked by inmate at Lamar County Jail • Updated 2:35 p.m.

Lamar County Sheriff Scott Cass said deputies were serving warrants on a wanted female today in the lobby of the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office when the wanted person started resisting and fighting with the deputies.

“Detention staff was called to assist the deputies in restraining the female,” Cass said. “While the female resisted attempts to be taken into custody, she began kicking at the officers and struck one of the female detention officers in the head. The female was wearing a medical boot on the foot that struck the detention officer. Paris Emergency Services were called to the Sheriff’s Office where subsequently the detention officer was flown to a hospital in the metroplex for the injuries received during the fight.”

Cass said the wanted person was identified as Shannon D. Thompson. She was arrested for the following outstanding warrants: Bond Surrender-Resisting arrest, search or transport, a misdemeanor, and Bond Surrender for Fraud Use/Poss Identifying info. Thompson was also arrested and charged with three counts of Assault on a Public Servant, and Resisting arrest.

“Thompson is currently in the Lamar County Jail awaiting arraignment,” Cass said. “Our prayers are with the officer and her family for a speedy recovery.”

According to Lamar County officials, a female jailer has been assaulted by an inmate.

The jailer, whose name has not yet been released, has been taken by Air Evac to a hospital for treatment of injuries.
