Knife-wielding mugger targeting women in Queens: cops

A knife-wielding mugger has been targeting women in Astoria — and police have released a video of the creep wearing an “I Love NY” shirt in hopes of getting help in tracking him down.

The man’s crime spree began about 11:30 p.m. July 28, when he approached a 27-year-old woman in front of 34-19 33rd St. and made off with $120.

Almost 24 hours later, he lifted his shirt and displayed a knife in front of a 23-year-old woman and demanded money on 36th Street near 30th Avenue. He fled with $60.

The suspect turned more violent on July 31, when he punched a 21-year-old woman in the back of her head at 4:30 a.m. at 43rd Street and 31st Avenue.

He proceeded to choke her before stealing her wallet, containing credit cards and $30 in cash. The victim was treated at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Last Friday, he pushed a 29-year-old woman into the lobby of her building near 43rd Street and 34th Avenue, where he tried unsuccessfully to steal her bag before fleeing.

In the most recent episode, he approached a 28-year-old woman in front of 34-35 29th Street about 12:43 a.m. Sunday while wearing a surgical mask.

He grabbed her from behind and put her in a chokehold before escaping with her pocketbook, which contained several credit cards.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall black man who was last seen wearing red sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
