Neighbors alert Reno Police of burglary, two juveniles detained

Two juveniles have been detained by the Reno Police Department after watchful neighbors witness them entering a nearby residence.

The Reno Police Department received a call April 10 in regards to two subjects being observed, on Key West Road, entering a home across the street of watchful residents nearby.

“They called the homeowner and learned that no one should be there, and the police were then notified,” said Chief of Police, Jeremy Massey. “Officers arrived and interviewed two juveniles who admitted entering the residence without consent.”

Officers discovered that cash, a firearm and other items were taken from the home. While recovering the property, officers also found a firearm that was stolen from a vehicle burglary in Paris, Texas, two days prior.

The juveniles were detained and the investigation is ongoing.

“This is a great example of how vigilance and knowing your neighbors can assist the police in recovering property and thwarting crime,” said Chief Massey. “The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office and Lamar County Emergency Management assisted in the investigation.”
