A Louisiana couple faces charges after paramedics responding to a call about a miscarriage discovered the woman’s newborn alive in the trash, officials said.
Thelma Kirkland, 30, and Carl Hall, 31, were arrested Friday on suspicion of attempted murder after the baby was found at their Alexandria home, according to a police news release.
Paramedics reportedly were treating Kirkland for a miscarriage Wednesday when the newborn was discovered.
Authorities said they believe the baby was delivered and placed in the trash over an hour before the couple called 911.
Both the mom and baby were rushed to a local hospital, where the newborn remains on life support, according to officials.
The parents were arrested Friday and booked at Rapides Parish Detention Center.
