Paris Police Department alerts citizens of new phone scam

It’s no surprise that phone scams are on the rise.

The Paris Police Department is warning citizens of a new scam making the rounds in our community. A phone call is coming from an individual claiming to be getting out of the military and is needing help getting home.

The scammer is asking for $3,000 for the trip and identifies his rank and name as Col. Thomas. He is not a friend, friend of a friend or family member, but he is looking for a good patriotic supporter of our armed services to get him home.

Do not send money to anyone unless you can verify their identity and the place in which you are sending money. Getting caught in a scam is easy. If in doubt, contact local law enforcement.
