Factory-line assembling of 2019 Porsche Macan begins at Leipzig plant

Fancy getting a 2019 Porsche Macan soon? You’re in luck as the Stuttgart-based automaker recently started series production of the refreshed crossover at the Leipzig plant. First revealed back in July 2018, the subtly refreshed Macan features a mild redesign, along with a plethora of new high-tech features.

The first factory-built 2019 Macan is heading for China and is painted in a rather distinct Mamba Green Metallic hue. According to Porsche, China has become the company’s top-selling market for the Macan with more than 100,000 deliveries since its launch in 2014. With it, Porsche plans on ramping up production to 420 units per day this September, matching the high production rate of its predecessor in just a few days.

“The Macan is the very definition of a successful model – for Porsche and for the Leipzig site. In 2011, the model was the inspiration for a radical new beginning: That year, the plant in Leipzig was expanded into a full-sized facility to accommodate the compact SUV, featuring its own body shop and paint shop. When the factory was put into operation in February 2014, the plant was able to produce 40,000 units per year,” said Gerd Rupp, Chairman of the Executive Board at Porsche Leipzig Gmbh.

Currently, the plant produces 90,000 units per year for markets around the world. Since 2014, The Leipzig plant has approximately delivered 350,000 units of the Macan to customers around the globe.

In review, the 2019 Macan adopts a sleeker, sportier appearance than its predecessor. The front air intakes are now wider while the headlights now come with LED lighting as standard. But perhaps the most obvious changes on the Macan can be seen at the rear. The taillights now look vastly different than the pre-facelift model while a new LED light strip further accentuate the Macan’s refreshed look.

Inside, the updated crossover gets a new center stack with a bigger 10.9-inch infotainment screen. It has the same software as the Cayenne and has new interior trim options available. But for the most part, the cabin remains relatively the same as before. There are, however, new safety systems and amenities onboard the Macan like traffic jam assist, adaptive cruise control and the new OffRoad precision app.

Available engines for the 2019 Porsche Macan includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, all the way to a twin-turbo V6 that packs 440 PS and 600 Nm of torque.
