A 19-year-old Binghamton University freshman was fatally stabbed on campus…

Michael Roque, a 20-year-old from Massapequa, was charged with second-degree murder and booked into the Broome County Jail, according to The Press & Sun-Bulletin.

Joao Souza, 19, an engineering major from Rye Brook in Westchester County, was attacked at Windham Hall at about 10:30 p.m., police said.

“Law enforcement believes the attack was not a random act and that the victim was targeted,” BU Vice President Brian Rose said.

It was the second homicide involving a BU student this year.

On March 9, the strangled body of BU nursing student Haley Anderson, 22, of Westbury, LI, was found in the off-campus apartment of a fellow student she had briefly dated.

The suspect fled to Nicaragua where he was captured. Prosecutors are seeking to have him returned to Broome County for trial.

“The last two months have been very, very difficult,” an emotional BU President Harvey Stenger said.

“You can understand how difficult it must be for parents and for friends. You want to do anything you can to help them through these times.”
