Teacher facing 20 years after admitting sex, drug use with teen

A history teacher in Texas is facing up to 20 years in prison after admitting to having sex and smoking pot with a 15-year-old student.

Michelle Schiffer, a 23-year-old Houston woman who formerly taught at Cypress Springs High School, pleaded guilty Monday to having an improper relationship with the former student, admitting she had sex with him at least twice last summer, the Houston Chronicle reports.

“Michelle has taken responsibility for her actions and is very remorseful,” attorney Grant Scheiner told the newspaper. “At sentencing Michelle plans to personally apologize to the complainant and his family, as well as everyone affected. It’s highly doubtful she will have any trouble with the law again.”

Schiffer was arrested in November after meeting up with the student in July at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Cypress before going to a friend’s apartment to have sex. An anonymous student later reported the alleged improper trysts to the school’s principal.

During their second encounter, Schiffer picked up the teen in a park before they smoked marijuana. They then pulled over in a residential area to have sex, according to a criminal complaint.

Schiffer was removed from the school’s campus and put on administrative leave after she was charged with an improper relationship between educator and student, and sexual assault of a child.

“We will continue to protect our students and not tolerate relationships of an inappropriate nature,” school officials said in a statement in November.
